The incredible story of Hyeonseo Lee, who escaped North Korea. Later, she also managed to escape her family (mother and brother). I would recommend this book to anyone curious about how life in North Korea is like.

After escaping North Korea, she lived as a hidden, illegal immigrant in China. She was eventually arrested by the police, but succeeded in convincing the interrogators that she was Chinese using her perfect knowledge of the Chinese characters. Ironically, when she entered South Korea and claimed the status of North Korean refugee, she had a really hard time convincing the authorities that she was North Korean due to the Chinese accent that she developed during all these years…!

Prior to writing this book, she gave a TED talk. The book is far more fascinating than the talk though.
